Shield of Faith (Ephesians 6:16)
The shield of faith — active trust in God's character and promises — quenches all the fiery darts of the wicked.
The Roman scutum was a large, leather-covered shield soaked in water to extinguish flaming arrows. Paul says faith does the same with Satan's fiery darts — every doubt, accusation, temptation, and lie. The shield is not the believer's strength but God Himself trusted: 'Thou art my shield' (Psalm 119:114).
