The Temptation of Christ in the Wilderness
Jesus answered every temptation of Satan with 'It is written' — showing the believer how to wield the Word.
After forty days of fasting, Jesus faced Satan in the wilderness (Matthew 4, Luke 4). Three temptations — appetite, presumption, and power — each met with a quotation from Deuteronomy. The Last Adam succeeded where the first Adam failed, and gave the church its pattern for warfare.
