Queen Esther Saves Her People: Sunday School Lesson

Big Idea
God places us where we are 'for such a time as this' — and He gives courage to those who trust Him.
Story Summary
Esther was a young Jewish girl raised by her cousin Mordecai in Persia. When King Ahasuerus searched the empire for a new queen, Esther was chosen — but she did not tell anyone she was Jewish. Then a wicked man named Haman tricked the king into signing a law to destroy all the Jews. Mordecai sent word to Esther: 'Who knoweth whether thou art come to the kingdom for such a time as this?' Esther asked her people to fast and pray for three days, then said, 'If I perish, I perish.' She went before the king uninvited, exposed Haman's evil plot, and saved her people. Haman was punished, and the Jews were delivered.

- Who raised Esther?
Teacher hint: Her cousin Mordecai — her parents had died (Esther 2:7).
- Why was it dangerous for Esther to go to the king without being called?
Teacher hint: The law said anyone who came uninvited could be killed unless the king held out his golden sceptre (Esther 4:11).
- What did Esther ask her people to do before she went to the king?
Teacher hint: To fast and pray for three days (Esther 4:16).

Craft Idea: Queen Esther Crown
Supplies
- Long strip of gold or yellow card stock per child
- Crayons, markers, or stickers (jewels)
- Tape or stapler
- An Esther 4:14 label
Steps
- Cut crown points along the top edge of the gold strip.
- Decorate the crown with markers and jewel stickers.
- Fit it to each child's head and tape or staple it closed.
- Stick the Esther 4:14 label on the inside of the crown — every time they wear it, they read the verse.
