    Queen Esther Saves Her People: Sunday School Lesson

    Big Idea

    God places us where we are 'for such a time as this' — and He gives courage to those who trust Him.

    Story Summary

    Esther was a young Jewish girl raised by her cousin Mordecai in Persia. When King Ahasuerus searched the empire for a new queen, Esther was chosen — but she did not tell anyone she was Jewish. Then a wicked man named Haman tricked the king into signing a law to destroy all the Jews. Mordecai sent word to Esther: 'Who knoweth whether thou art come to the kingdom for such a time as this?' Esther asked her people to fast and pray for three days, then said, 'If I perish, I perish.' She went before the king uninvited, exposed Haman's evil plot, and saved her people. Haman was punished, and the Jews were delivered.

    Discussion Questions

    1. Who raised Esther?

      Teacher hint: Her cousin Mordecai — her parents had died (Esther 2:7).

    2. Why was it dangerous for Esther to go to the king without being called?

      Teacher hint: The law said anyone who came uninvited could be killed unless the king held out his golden sceptre (Esther 4:11).

    3. What did Esther ask her people to do before she went to the king?

      Teacher hint: To fast and pray for three days (Esther 4:16).

    4. What does 'for such a time as this' mean for us?

      Teacher hint: God puts us in our family, school, and friends on purpose — so we can serve Him right where we are.

    5. Where might God want you to be brave for Him this week?

    Craft Idea: Queen Esther Crown

    Supplies

    • Long strip of gold or yellow card stock per child
    • Crayons, markers, or stickers (jewels)
    • Tape or stapler
    • An Esther 4:14 label

    Steps

    1. Cut crown points along the top edge of the gold strip.
    2. Decorate the crown with markers and jewel stickers.
    3. Fit it to each child's head and tape or staple it closed.
    4. Stick the Esther 4:14 label on the inside of the crown — every time they wear it, they read the verse.

    3. Discussion (10 min): Walk through the questions above. Let every child answer at least once.
    4. Craft (15 min): Make the queen esther crown.
    5. Wrap-up (5 min): Hand out the worksheet to finish at home and recite the memory verse one last time.
