    Building a name for ourselves never reaches heaven; God alone lifts people up.

    Story Summary

    The whole earth spoke one language. On the plain of Shinar the people said, 'Let us build us a city and a tower, whose top may reach unto heaven' — to make a name for themselves. The LORD came down, confounded their language so they could not understand one another, and scattered them abroad over all the earth.

    Discussion Questions

    1. Why did the people want to build the tower?

      Teacher hint: To make a name for themselves and avoid being scattered (Gen 11:4).

    2. What did God do instead of knocking the tower down?
    3. Where in the Bible does God undo the confusion of Babel?

      Teacher hint: At Pentecost, when every man heard the gospel in his own tongue (Acts 2:6–8).

    4. What is something you want people to notice about you? How can you point them to God instead?

    Craft Idea: Paper-Cup Babel Tower

    Supplies

    • Paper or plastic cups
    • Sticky labels
    • Markers
    • A table

    Steps

    1. Write one language greeting on each label (Hello, Hola, Bonjour, Shalom…).
    2. Stick a label on each cup.
    3. Let the class build the tallest tower they can.
    4. Knock it gently and read Genesis 11:9 together.

    1. Welcome (5 min): Pray, then read the memory verse aloud three times together.
    2. Story (10 min): Tell the story summary in your own words; open a KJV to Genesis 11:1–9.
    3. Discussion (10 min): Walk through the questions above. Let every child answer at least once.
    4. Craft (15 min): Make the paper-cup babel tower.
    5. Wrap-up (5 min): Hand out the worksheet to finish at home and recite the memory verse one last time.
