Jesus Feeds the 5,000: Sunday School Lesson
John 6:1–14 · Matthew 14:13–21
Big Idea
When we bring what little we have to Jesus, He blesses it, multiplies it, and feeds the multitude.
Story Summary
A great multitude — five thousand men, besides women and children — followed Jesus into a desert place to hear Him teach. As it grew late, the disciples wanted to send the crowd away to find food. But Jesus said, 'They need not depart; give ye them to eat.' A boy brought his small lunch of five barley loaves and two small fishes. Jesus took it, looked up to heaven, blessed it, and broke the loaves. The disciples handed out food until everyone had eaten as much as they wanted — and twelve baskets of leftovers were gathered up.

Craft Idea: Loaves and Fishes Basket
Supplies
- A small paper bowl or basket per child
- Brown paper torn into loaf shapes
- Grey or blue paper fish
- A John 6:11 label
- Markers
Steps
- Decorate the basket with markers.
- Place five small paper loaves and two paper fish inside.
- Stick the John 6:11 label on the front of the basket.
- Take it home and use it at family supper as a reminder to thank God for our food.
