Abraham

Abraham, originally named Abram, was born in Ur of the Chaldees and later moved with his family to Haran. When he was seventy-five years old, God called him to leave his country and go to a land that He would show him. This call came with extraordinary promises: God would make Abraham into a great nation, bless him, make his name great, and through him all families of the earth would be blessed.

Abraham's journey of faith was marked by both triumphs and failures. He demonstrated remarkable trust in God when he left everything familiar behind, yet he also showed human weakness when he twice lied about Sarah being his sister. Despite being childless well into old age, Abraham believed God's promise of descendants as numerous as the stars.

The supreme test of Abraham's faith came when God asked him to sacrifice his son Isaac on Mount Moriah. Abraham's willingness to obey, even in this impossible situation, demonstrated the depth of his faith. God provided a ram as a substitute sacrifice, foreshadowing the ultimate sacrifice of Christ.

Abraham died at the age of 175 and was buried in the cave of Machpelah alongside Sarah. His legacy extends beyond the Jewish people to all who share his faith, as the apostle Paul teaches that believers are Abraham's spiritual children.
