Lot

Lot traveled with his uncle Abraham from Ur to Canaan. When their combined flocks became too large for the land to support, Abraham generously offered Lot first choice of territory. Lot "lifted up his eyes" and chose the well-watered plains of Jordan, pitching his tent toward Sodom—a city already notorious for wickedness.

Over time, Lot moved from near Sodom to inside its gates, eventually sitting in the gate as a city official. When kings captured Sodom and took Lot prisoner, Abraham mounted a rescue. Yet Lot returned to Sodom, despite its growing corruption.

When two angels visited Lot to warn of Sodom's imminent destruction, the men of the city surrounded his house with evil intent. Lot offered his daughters to protect his guests—a disturbing choice showing how Sodom had corrupted his judgment. The angels struck the mob blind and urged Lot to flee immediately.

Even then, Lot lingered and had to be physically pulled from the city. His wife looked back and became a pillar of salt. Lot's daughters, having absorbed Sodom's corruption, later got their father drunk and conceived children by him—the ancestors of the Moabites and Ammonites. Lot's life illustrates how compromise with sin gradually erodes faith and family.
