Enoch

Enoch appears briefly in Genesis's genealogy from Adam to Noah, but his entry stands out dramatically. While other patriarchs "lived and died," Enoch's record reads differently: "And Enoch walked with God: and he was not; for God took him."

Enoch lived 365 years—far shorter than other pre-flood patriarchs. Jude quotes a prophecy from Enoch: "Behold, the Lord cometh with ten thousands of his saints, to execute judgment upon all." This indicates Enoch had a prophetic ministry, warning his generation of coming judgment.

The phrase "walked with God" implies continuous, intimate fellowship. In a violent age racing toward judgment, Enoch maintained his relationship with God so closely that translation to heaven was simply the culmination of their walk together. Hebrews explains: "By faith Enoch was translated that he should not see death... for before his translation he had this testimony, that he pleased God."

Only Elijah shares Enoch's distinction of bypassing death. Both their experiences point forward to the resurrection and the promise that believers will be "caught up together... to meet the Lord in the air." Enoch's life, though briefly recorded, demonstrates that walking with God is life's highest calling and greatest reward.
