    Big Idea

    God makes the army small so everyone can see who really won.

    Story Summary

    The angel of the LORD found Gideon threshing wheat in a winepress, hiding from the Midianites, and called him a mighty man of valour. God cut Gideon's army from thirty-two thousand down to three hundred men so Israel could not boast. With trumpets, pitchers and lamps they surrounded the camp at night — and the LORD set the enemy against itself.

    Memory Verse (KJV)

    Discussion Questions

    1. Where was Gideon when God called him a mighty man of valour?

      Teacher hint: Hiding in a winepress, threshing wheat (Judg 6:11).

    Craft Idea: Pitcher and Lamp Shaker

    Supplies

    • Paper cups
    • Yellow tissue paper
    • Tape
    • Torch or battery tea light (optional)

    Steps

    1. Tape yellow tissue 'flame' inside a paper cup.
    2. Turn the lights low and hide the flame under a second cup.
    3. On a signal, break the cover away and shout as Gideon's men did.
    4. Read Judges 6:12 with the lamps held high.
