    God hears the prayer nobody else can even hear.

    Story Summary

    Hannah had no children and wept bitterly before the LORD at Shiloh. She prayed so quietly that Eli thought she was drunk, but God heard her. He gave her a son, Samuel, and Hannah kept her promise and lent him to the LORD for all his life.

    Discussion Questions

    1. Why did Eli think Hannah was drunk?

      Teacher hint: She spoke in her heart; only her lips moved (1 Sam 1:13).

    2. What did Hannah promise God?
    3. Was it hard for Hannah to keep her promise? Why did she keep it anyway?
    4. What is something you have prayed about for a long time?

    Craft Idea: Whisper-Prayer Jar

    Supplies

    • Small jar or paper cup
    • Slips of paper
    • Pencils
    • Ribbon

    Steps

    1. Each child writes or draws one prayer on a slip.
    2. Fold the slips and drop them in the jar.
    3. Tie the ribbon around the jar with 1 Samuel 1:27 on a tag.
    4. Pray together silently, as Hannah did, before taking the jars home.

    1. Welcome (5 min): Pray, then read the memory verse aloud three times together.
    2. Story (10 min): Tell the story summary in your own words; open a KJV to 1 Samuel 1–2.
    3. Discussion (10 min): Walk through the questions above. Let every child answer at least once.
    4. Craft (15 min): Make the whisper-prayer jar.
    5. Wrap-up (5 min): Hand out the worksheet to finish at home and recite the memory verse one last time.
