Seth

Seth was born when Adam was 130 years old, after the devastating loss of Abel and the exile of Cain. Eve named him Seth, meaning "appointed," saying, "God hath appointed me another seed instead of Abel, whom Cain slew." In Seth, God provided a fresh start for humanity's spiritual lineage.

Unlike Cain's line, which descended into violence and godlessness, Seth's descendants are characterized by their relationship with God. It was during Seth's son Enosh's lifetime that "men began to call upon the name of the Lord"—a revival of worship and prayer that distinguished Seth's line from Cain's.

Seth lived 912 years and fathered sons and daughters. His genealogy in Genesis 5 traces the line from Adam through Seth to Noah, each generation carrying forward the promise of redemption. This lineage would eventually produce Abraham, David, and ultimately Jesus Christ, the promised seed of the woman who would crush the serpent's head.

Though Scripture records few specific events of Seth's life, his significance is enormous. He represents God's faithful provision of a godly seed when all seemed lost. Luke's genealogy of Jesus traces back through Seth to Adam and to God, confirming Seth's place in the unbroken chain of redemption.
