    Big Idea

    Jesus came as a humble King — on a borrowed colt, not a war horse.

    Story Summary

    Jesus sent two disciples for a colt and rode into Jerusalem as the prophet Zechariah had foretold. The crowds spread their garments and palm branches in the way and cried, 'Hosanna to the Son of David.' The whole city was moved, asking, 'Who is this?'

    Discussion Questions

    1. What did Jesus ride into Jerusalem on? Why does that matter?
    2. What did the crowds put on the road?
    3. What does 'Hosanna' mean?

      Teacher hint: 'Save now' — a cry for salvation that became a shout of praise.

    4. The same city shouted 'Crucify him' days later. What does that warn us about crowds?

    Craft Idea: Palm Branch Wavers

    Supplies

    • Green paper
    • Scissors
    • Craft sticks or straws
    • Tape

    Steps

    1. Cut long leaf shapes and fringe the edges.
    2. Tape each leaf to a stick.
    3. Write Matthew 21:9 on the stem.
    4. March around the room waving them and shouting Hosanna.

    4. Craft (15 min): Make the palm branch wavers.
    5. Wrap-up (5 min): Hand out the worksheet to finish at home and recite the memory verse one last time.
