This real miracle shows Jesus’ authority. It does not promise that trusting him removes every difficulty.

    Across the lake

One evening, Jesus said to his friends, “Let us pass over unto the other side.” They climbed into a little boat and sailed across the lake as the sun went down.

    Jesus sleeps

After a busy day of teaching, Jesus was tired. He lay down on a pillow at the back of the boat and fell fast asleep. The boat rocked gently on the water.

    The wind rises

Then a great storm came. The wind blew and the waves crashed into the boat until it began to fill with water. His friends were very frightened. They woke Jesus and asked, “Carest thou not that we perish?”

    “Peace, be still”

Jesus stood up. He spoke to the wind and said to the sea, “Peace, be still.” And the wind stopped blowing.

    A great calm

The water became smooth and quiet. Jesus asked his friends why they were so afraid. They wondered, “What manner of man is this, that even the wind and the sea obey him?”

We can bring our fears to Jesus.

What could you pray about when you feel afraid?

Dear Jesus, help us trust you when we are afraid. Thank you that we can come to you tonight. Amen.
