    Luke 1:37 – Meaning & Devotional

"For with God nothing shall be impossible."

    — Luke 1:37 (KJV)

    What This Verse Means

The angel Gabriel spoke these words to Mary after announcing she would conceive the Son of God. Mary's situation was humanly impossible — a virgin bearing a child. Yet Gabriel declared that impossibility has no standing before God.

This brief but mighty verse reminds us that God specializes in the impossible. When He calls us to something beyond our ability, He also provides beyond our ability.

    Historical Context

Gabriel had just told Mary she would bear the Messiah and also informed her that her elderly relative Elizabeth was pregnant — proof that God can do the impossible. Mary responded with faith: 'Be it unto me according to thy word.'

    How to Apply This Today

When God asks you to do something that seems impossible, remember Mary's example. Say yes to God and trust Him to make it happen. Your inability is His opportunity.
