Genesis 18:14 – Meaning & Devotional
"Is any thing too hard for the LORD? At the time appointed I will return unto thee, according to the time of life, and Sarah shall have a son."
What This Verse Means
God asks a rhetorical question that echoes through all of Scripture: Is anything too hard for the LORD? The answer is emphatically no. The context makes this even more powerful — Sarah was 90 years old and Abraham nearly 100. By every human measure, childbearing was impossible.
God pairs the question with a timeline: 'At the time appointed.' God's promises come with divine scheduling. They may seem delayed, but they arrive exactly when God intends. His power is matched by His timing — both are perfect.
Historical Context
Three visitors (God and two angels) came to Abraham's tent near Mamre. God announced that Sarah would bear a son within a year. Sarah laughed from inside the tent — and God heard her. His response was this stunning question that challenges all human limitations.
How to Apply This Today
What 'impossible' situation are you facing? Apply God's question to it: Is anything too hard for the LORD? Trust that He can do what seems impossible and that His timing is perfect. Your 'impossible' is His opportunity.
