Ephesians 3:20 – Meaning & Devotional
"Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us."
What This Verse Means
Paul stacks superlatives to describe God's power: not just above what we ask, not just abundantly above, but exceeding abundantly above all we can even imagine. Our biggest dreams are still too small for God.
Remarkably, this limitless power works 'in us' — not just for us from a distance. God's immeasurable ability operates through the lives of ordinary believers.
Historical Context
This verse concludes Paul's prayer for the Ephesian believers and transitions into a doxology (praise). After praying for their spiritual strengthening, Paul reminds them that God's capacity to answer far exceeds their capacity to ask.
How to Apply This Today
Dream bigger. Pray bolder. God's ability to work in your life exceeds your wildest imagination. Don't limit Him with small expectations — He is able to do immeasurably more.
