    Introduction

After diagnosing the loss of first love (v. 4), Christ prescribes the cure in three movements: remember, repent, redo. Recovery is never abstract — it is concrete, deliberate, and now.

    Historical Context

The 'candlestick' is the church's place in Christ's witness (Rev. 1:20). Losing it does not mean losing salvation for individuals, but losing corporate effectiveness as a public lampstand of the gospel.

    Original Language Insights

'Remember' (mnemoneue, present imperative) — keep remembering. Spiritual amnesia is the soil love dies in.

'First works' — the deeds that flowed when love was fresh. Action restores affection, not the other way around.

    Theological Significance

Christ does not tell Ephesus to feel more; He tells them to do what their fresh love once did. Obedience often re-warms the heart that lecture cannot reach.

    Practical Application

Name one thing your love for Christ used to do that it has stopped doing. Do that thing this week. Remember, repent, redo.

    Prayer Response

Lord, I remember when love for You was new. Forgive me where it has cooled, and lead me back into the first works. Amen.

    Frequently Asked Questions

Can a person lose salvation by losing first love?

The threat is to the church's lampstand witness, not to the individual's eternal life secured in Christ. But persistent unrepentance is always serious.
