Revelation 3:20 – Meaning & Devotional
"Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me."
What This Verse Means
Jesus presents Himself as a gentle guest, not a forceful intruder. He knocks and waits — the door handle is on the inside, meaning we must choose to open it. He won't force His way in.
The promise of dining together represents intimate fellowship. In the ancient world, sharing a meal was the deepest expression of friendship and acceptance.
Historical Context
This was written to the church at Laodicea, which Jesus described as lukewarm. Remarkably, Christ stands outside His own church, asking to be let in. The invitation is both corporate and personal.
How to Apply This Today
Open the door of your heart to Christ today. He doesn't demand forced entry — He patiently waits for your invitation. Don't leave Him standing outside.
