Introduction
The glory that arises on God's people in v. 2 is not for private enjoyment. v. 3 says the nations and their leaders will come to it. Light shines outward by nature.
Historical Context
Isaiah foresees what Acts and church history confirm: the gospel pulls Gentiles and rulers toward the risen Christ. The Magi at Bethlehem are an early down payment.
Original Language Insights
'Come to' (halak) — to walk toward, journey. The image is movement initiated by the brightness itself; the light does the drawing.
'Brightness' (nogah) — radiance, glow.
Theological Significance
Mission is centripetal as well as centrifugal: God's glory on His people draws the nations. The church does not only go to the world; the world is drawn to where Christ is high and lifted up.
Practical Application
Make Christ visible. The brighter He shines through your church and life, the more the seekers and skeptics will find their way to Him.
