Introduction
Sarah laughed silently inside the tent (v. 12). The LORD heard. One verse before the great question 'Is any thing too hard for the LORD?' (v. 14), He shows that nothing is too hidden either.
Historical Context
Hospitality customs kept Sarah behind the tent flap, listening but unseen. Her unspoken response becomes the very point the LORD addresses — He sees the heart, not the seating chart.
Original Language Insights
'Wherefore did Sarah laugh' — the rebuke is gentle and direct. The LORD's omniscience is not used to crush her but to lead her to the larger question in v. 14.
Theological Significance
God's knowledge of our doubt is not an indictment; it is an invitation. He surfaces the laugh so He can answer it with His own power.
Practical Application
Inward unbelief is heard. Bring it into the open with God; He has already heard it and is ready to meet it with promise.
