What does the Bible say about honesty?

Honesty is a cornerstone of Christian character. God Himself is truth, and He calls His people to reflect that truth in every word and action. Key King James Version passages include Proverbs 12:22, Ephesians 4:25, Proverbs 11:1. This page collects 10 KJV verses about honesty, each quoted in full.

Why is honesty important to God?

God is truth (John 14:6), and lying is fundamentally opposed to His nature. Honesty reflects God's character, builds trust in relationships, and is essential to walking with God — Psalm 15 says only those who speak truth may dwell in His presence.

Is it ever okay to lie?

While some debate difficult scenarios (like Rahab protecting the spies), the overwhelming biblical teaching is that God hates lying (Proverbs 12:22) and commands truthfulness. Christians are called to speak truth in love (Ephesians 4:15).
