What does the Bible say about keeping promises?

A promise is a sacred thing. God always keeps His promises, and He expects His people to do the same. Key King James Version passages include Numbers 30:2, Psalm 15:4, Ecclesiastes 5:4-5. This page collects 10 KJV verses about keeping promises, each quoted in full.

Why is keeping promises important?

Keeping promises reflects God's character (He always keeps His word), builds trust in relationships, demonstrates integrity, and is explicitly commanded in Scripture (Numbers 30:2, Ecclesiastes 5:4-5).

What if I made a promise I can't keep?

Scripture takes promises seriously. If circumstances genuinely prevent fulfillment, seek honest communication and make amends where possible. The lesson is to be careful before making commitments (Ecclesiastes 5:5).
