What does the Bible say about being thankful?

Being thankful is not just a nice sentiment — it is a command and a spiritual discipline. The Bible calls us to give thanks in all circumstances, not because every situation is good, but because God is always good. Key King James Version passages include Psalm 118:1, 1 Chronicles 16:34, Psalm 95:2. This page collects 10 KJV verses about being thankful, each quoted in full.

Why does God want us to be thankful?

Gratitude acknowledges God's goodness and sovereignty. It aligns our hearts with reality — that every good gift comes from Him (James 1:17). Thankfulness also protects us from pride, entitlement, and discontent.

How can I practice being thankful daily?

Start each day naming three things you're grateful for, keep a gratitude journal, incorporate thanksgiving into your prayers (Philippians 4:6), and verbally thank the people God has placed in your life.
