What does the Bible say about heaven?

Heaven is the ultimate hope of every Christian—an eternal dwelling place in the presence of God where sin, sorrow, and death are no more. While Scripture does not reveal every detail, what it does describe is breathtaking: streets of gold, gates of pearl, the river of life, and above all, the unending presence of God Himself. Key King James Version passages include John 14:2, Revelation 21:4, Philippians 3:20. This page collects 10 KJV verses about heaven, each quoted in full.

What does the Bible say heaven looks like?

Revelation 21-22 describes heaven as a city with streets of pure gold, gates of pearl, walls of precious stones, and a river of the water of life. Most importantly, God's presence fills it with light so that 'there shall be no night there' (Revelation 22:5).

Will we recognize people in heaven?

Scripture suggests we will know one another in heaven. Jesus was recognized after His resurrection, and in the Transfiguration, Moses and Elijah were identifiable (Matthew 17:3). Paul expected to see the Thessalonians in heaven (1 Thessalonians 2:19).

What will we do in heaven?

Scripture describes heavenly activities including worship (Revelation 7:9-10), reigning with Christ (Revelation 22:5), serving God (Revelation 22:3), and enjoying perfect fellowship. Heaven is not passive floating on clouds — it is active, purposeful, and joyful existence in God's presence.

Can we communicate with the dead in heaven?

Scripture forbids attempting to contact the dead (Deuteronomy 18:10-12). While believers in heaven are alive with God, communication across the veil is not supported biblically. We are called to trust that our loved ones in Christ are in God's care.
