After Korah's rebellion the Lord told Moses to gather a rod from each tribe. Aaron's name was written on the rod of Levi, and the rods were laid up before the testimony in the tabernacle. The next morning Aaron's rod alone had budded, blossomed, and yielded ripe almonds — a sign chosen by God to silence all murmuring.
