What Are Demons in the Bible?
Demons are fallen, evil spirits under Satan who oppose God and oppress people — but they are subject to Christ.
The New Testament uses 'devils' (Greek daimonion) over 60 times. They are unclean, intelligent, malevolent spirits. They believe in God and tremble (James 2:19), recognize Christ's deity (Mark 1:24), and are utterly subject to His word (Mark 1:27). Every recorded encounter between Jesus and demons ends with the demons defeated.

Why It Matters
The Bible takes demons seriously without giving them ultimate power. They are dangerous but defeated — real enemies whose head has been crushed by the seed of the woman (Genesis 3:15).

Don't ignore the spiritual realm; don't obsess over it. The believer's safety is in Christ, not in formulas. Resist the devil and he will flee (James 4:7).
