Introduction
Historical Context
Psalm 37 is wisdom-acrostic poetry, written to encourage the righteous when the wicked seemed to prosper. The repeated promise of inheritance (vv. 9, 11, 22, 29, 34) is Jesus' source for the third Beatitude.
Original Language Insights
'Inherit' (yireshu) — receive as covenant possession.
'Cut off' (yikkaretu) — severed from the people. The opposite of inheritance is not poverty but excision.
Theological Significance
The blessed do not seize land; they inherit it. God Himself secures the meek's portion, while the proud who grasp finally lose everything. Inheritance is God's gift, not man's grab.
Practical Application
Stop fighting for your inheritance. The God who orders your steps (v. 23) is the same God who secures your portion (v. 22). Walk humbly; the inheritance comes.
