Psalm 37:4 – Meaning & Devotional
"Delight thyself also in the LORD; and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart."
What This Verse Means
This verse is often misread as a blank check for personal wishes. But the key is in the sequence: as you delight in God, your desires begin to align with His. He transforms what you want so that His gifts match your heart.
Delighting in God means finding your greatest pleasure, satisfaction, and joy in Him. When He becomes your supreme delight, your desires naturally reflect His will.
Historical Context
Psalm 37 addresses the frustration of watching the wicked prosper. David's answer is to redirect focus from envying others to enjoying God. When God becomes your delight, the prosperity of others loses its power to disturb.
How to Apply This Today
Instead of bringing God your wish list, bring Him your attention and affection. As you delight in Him, watch how your desires begin to shift toward what He wants to give.
