    The Christ hymn of Colossians presents the highest Christology in Paul's letters. Christ is the visible image of the invisible God, the creator of everything, and the sustainer of all existence.

    The Colossian church was being influenced by a proto-Gnostic heresy that diminished Christ's role. Paul responds with the most exalted description of Christ possible.
