Colossians 3:2 – Meaning & Devotional
"Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth."
What This Verse Means
Paul commands a deliberate reorientation of desire and attention from earthly pursuits to heavenly realities. 'Set your affection' implies a conscious, repeated choice — not a one-time decision but an ongoing discipline.
This doesn't mean ignoring earthly responsibilities but prioritizing eternal values. When heaven shapes your perspective, earth finds its proper place.
Historical Context
Paul wrote from prison to Colossian believers who were being influenced by false teachings mixing philosophy, Jewish legalism, and mysticism. He redirects their focus to the supremacy of Christ and heavenly priorities.
How to Apply This Today
