    The Ten Plagues of Egypt

Ten devastating signs by which God broke Pharaoh's pride and freed His people.

    The Ten Plagues of Egypt

When Pharaoh refused to let Israel go, the Lord sent ten escalating plagues on Egypt — water turned to blood, frogs, lice, flies, livestock disease, boils, hail, locusts, darkness, and the death of the firstborn. Each one struck at an Egyptian god and revealed that the Lord alone is God.

    Performed by

Moses and Aaron (by the hand of God)

    Location

    Egypt

    What Happened

    • 1The Nile turned to blood (Exodus 7)
    • 2Frogs, lice, and flies covered the land (Exodus 8)
    • 3Livestock died, boils broke out, hail fell (Exodus 9)
    • 4Locusts and three days of darkness came (Exodus 10)
    • 5The firstborn of Egypt died at midnight; Pharaoh let Israel go (Exodus 12)

    Key KJV Scriptures

"And the Egyptians shall know that I am the LORD, when I stretch forth mine hand upon Egypt, and bring out the children of Israel from among them."
"And it came to pass, that at midnight the LORD smote all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, from the firstborn of Pharaoh that sat on his throne unto the firstborn of the captive that was in the dungeon."

    Spiritual Significance

The plagues are a direct contest between the Lord and the gods of Egypt (Exodus 12:12). The final plague gave birth to the Passover, which points forward to Christ our Passover, sacrificed for us (1 Corinthians 5:7).

    Lesson for Today

A hardened heart only invites greater judgment. The Lord is patient, but He will not be mocked — and the blood of the Lamb is the only shelter from wrath.
