Bible Verses About Contentedness

"Not that I speak in respect of want: for I have learned, in whatsoever state I am, therewith to be content. I know both how to be abased, and I know how to abound: every where and in all things I am instructed both to be full and to be hungry, both to abound and to suffer need."

"But godliness with contentment is great gain. For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out. And having food and raiment let us be therewith content."

"Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee."

"A little that a righteous man hath is better than the riches of many wicked."

"Remove far from me vanity and lies: give me neither poverty nor riches; feed me with food convenient for me: Lest I be full, and deny thee, and say, Who is the LORD? or lest I be poor, and steal, and take the name of my God in vain."

"The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want."

"Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on. Is not the life more than meat, and the body than raiment?"

"But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus."

"For he satisfieth the longing soul, and filleth the hungry soul with goodness."

"He that loveth silver shall not be satisfied with silver; nor he that loveth abundance with increase: this is also vanity."

What does the Bible say about contentedness?

In a culture that constantly tells us we need more, the Bible calls believers to the radical practice of contentment. True contentedness is not complacency but a deep trust that God provides everything we need. Key King James Version passages include Philippians 4:11-12, 1 Timothy 6:6-8, Hebrews 13:5. This page collects 10 KJV verses about contentedness, each quoted in full.

Is contentment the same as complacency?

No. Biblical contentment is a heart posture of trusting God and being grateful in all circumstances. It doesn't mean giving up on growth or goals, but rather not allowing dissatisfaction to steal your peace.

How can I learn to be more content?

Scripture teaches that contentment is learned (Philippians 4:11). Practicing gratitude, meditating on God's provision, and focusing on eternal treasures rather than temporal ones all help cultivate contentment.
