A Prophet Like Moses
Moses foretold a prophet like himself whom Israel must hear — fulfilled in Christ.
On the plains of Moab, Moses promised a coming Prophet like himself, in whose mouth God would put His words. Peter and Stephen identify Jesus as that long-awaited Prophet.
The Prophecy
"The Lord thy God will raise up unto thee a Prophet from the midst of thee, of thy brethren, like unto me; unto him ye shall hearken."
"I will raise them up a Prophet from among their brethren, like unto thee, and will put my words in his mouth..."
The Fulfillment
"For Moses truly said unto the fathers, A prophet shall the Lord your God raise up unto you of your brethren, like unto me; him shall ye hear in all things whatsoever he shall say unto you."
"Then those men, when they had seen the miracle that Jesus did, said, This is of a truth that prophet that should come into the world."
Like Moses, but greater
Moses was the deliverer, mediator, and lawgiver. Christ — the greater Deliverer, Mediator, and Lawgiver — fulfilled the type and far surpassed it.
Hear ye him
On the mount of transfiguration the Father's voice declared, 'This is my beloved Son...hear ye him' — echoing Moses' command in Deuteronomy 18.
