The Gospel Goes to the Gentiles
Isaiah foretold the Servant as a light to the Gentiles.
Isaiah foretold that the Messiah would be a light to lighten the Gentiles and that all nations would flow to the mountain of the LORD. Simeon, Paul, and the worldwide spread of the gospel mark its fulfillment.
The Prophecy
"...I will also give thee for a light to the Gentiles, that thou mayest be my salvation unto the end of the earth."
"...the mountain of the Lord's house shall be established in the top of the mountains...and all nations shall flow unto it."
The Fulfillment
"For mine eyes have seen thy salvation...A light to lighten the Gentiles, and the glory of thy people Israel."
"...I have set thee to be a light of the Gentiles, that thou shouldest be for salvation unto the ends of the earth."
Simeon's song
The aged Simeon, holding the infant Christ, named Him a light to the Gentiles — the prophecy already breathed in the temple.
Paul's commission
Paul cites Isaiah to justify turning to the Gentiles — the church becomes the global fulfillment of the prophet's vision.
