The Spirit Poured Out on All Flesh
Joel's prophecy fulfilled on the day of Pentecost.
Joel foretold a day when God would pour out His Spirit on all flesh — sons and daughters prophesying, young men seeing visions, old men dreaming dreams. Peter declared this fulfilled when the Spirit fell at Pentecost.
The Prophecy
"And it shall come to pass afterward, that I will pour out my spirit upon all flesh; and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy...And also upon the servants and upon the handmaids in those days will I pour out my spirit."
The Fulfillment
"But this is that which was spoken by the prophet Joel; And it shall come to pass in the last days, saith God, I will pour out of my Spirit upon all flesh..."
All flesh
Joel's 'all flesh' shatters every barrier — Jew and Gentile, male and female, servant and free — anticipating the church of every nation.
The last days begun
Peter declares that the last days are already upon his hearers in AD 33 — the gospel age is itself the fulfilment of Joel's promise.
