The Queen Who Refused
Queen of Persia who refused the king's drunken command — her removal made room for Esther.
Esther 1 introduces Vashti, queen of Persia under Ahasuerus. After seven days of feasting, the king summoned her to appear before his princes 'to shew the people and the princes her beauty' (1:11 KJV). She refused. Her deposing set the stage for Esther's coronation.
Her Story
The king's anger burned; his advisers feared the precedent would embolden every wife in the empire. A royal decree removed her crown and 'her royal estate' was given to another (1:19). Scripture says nothing more of her, yet without Vashti's refusal there would be no Esther — and without Esther, no preservation of the Jewish people.
