Saul's daughter and David's first wife — loved him, saved his life, then despised his worship.
Michal, younger daughter of Saul, loved David (1 Samuel 18:20) and was given to him as wife for the price of a hundred Philistines. Her story bridges Saul's house and David's throne — and ends in barren estrangement.
Her Story
When Saul sought David's life, Michal let him down through a window and placed an image in the bed to deceive the messengers (1 Samuel 19:11-17). After David fled, Saul gave her to Phaltiel. When David came to the throne, he required her return. As the ark was brought up to Jerusalem with dancing, Michal saw David leaping and 'despised him in her heart.' She rebuked him; he answered, 'It was before the LORD... and I will yet be more vile than thus.' 'Therefore Michal the daughter of Saul had no child unto the day of her death' (2 Samuel 6:23).
