Exposition
Paul assures believers that every temptation is common and manageable. God's faithfulness ensures that with every temptation comes a way of escape.
Historical Setting
Paul wrote this around AD 55 to Corinthian Christians living in one of the ancient world's most morally corrupt cities. Corinth hosted temple prostitution and notorious excess. Paul assured believers that their temptations weren't unique and that God had faithfully set limits on what they would face.
Original Language Notes
'Ekbasis' means a way out, exit, or escape route—literally 'a stepping out.' It combines 'ek' (out of) and 'basis' (step). God doesn't just limit temptation; He engineers a specific exit strategy. The believer's job is to find it and take it.
Pastoral Application
You're never trapped by temptation. God limits what you face and always provides an escape route. Look for it and take it.
