1 Corinthians 10:13 – Meaning & Devotional
"There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it."
What This Verse Means
Three truths combat the lie that temptation is overwhelming: your struggle is common (you're not alone), God limits its intensity (you can handle it), and God provides escape routes (there's always a way out).
God's faithfulness is the anchor. He personally monitors every temptation and ensures it never exceeds your capacity to resist — with His help.
Historical Context
Paul wrote to Corinthian believers struggling with idolatry and immorality. After warning them with Israel's examples of failure, he reassures them that temptation can be overcome through God's faithful provision.
How to Apply This Today
When tempted, remember three things: others face the same struggle, God has limited its power, and there is an escape route. Look for the way out God has provided.
