Isaiah 55:11 – Meaning & Devotional
"So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it."
What This Verse Means
God's Word is guaranteed to achieve its purpose. Unlike human words that often fail, God's Word always accomplishes exactly what He intends. It never returns empty-handed.
This assurance covers all of Scripture — every promise, every prophecy, every command. God's Word is self-fulfilling; it carries the power to accomplish what it declares.
Historical Context
Isaiah contrasts God's thoughts and ways with human limitations. Just as rain accomplishes its purpose of watering the earth, God's Word accomplishes its divine mission without fail.
How to Apply This Today
When you share Scripture with others or pray God's promises, trust that His Word will not return void. It may not work on your timeline, but it will accomplish God's purpose.
