    Satan is a created, fallen angel who accuses, tempts, and deceives — already defeated by Christ at the cross.

    Satan ('adversary'), also called the devil, the dragon, the serpent, Lucifer, Beelzebub, and the accuser of the brethren, is a real personal being — not a symbol of evil. He was created good (Ezekiel 28:15) but fell through pride. Jesus called him 'a murderer from the beginning' and 'the father of lies' (John 8:44).

    Why It Matters

    Scripture refuses both extremes — denying Satan exists, and exaggerating him into a rival of God. He is real, he is dangerous, and he is already defeated.

    Submit to God first, then resist the devil — the order matters (James 4:7). The believer's strength is not self-confidence but the finished work of Christ.

    Satan was created as a beautiful, anointed cherub (Ezekiel 28:14) but fell through pride, wanting to be like God (Isaiah 14:13-14). He took a third of the angels with him in his rebellion.

    Is Satan omnipresent like God?

    No. Only God is omnipresent. Satan can only be in one place at a time. The vast majority of demonic activity in the world is carried out by his fallen angels, not Satan personally.

    Can Satan read my thoughts?

    Scripture never grants Satan the ability to read minds. He may observe behavior, tempt, and suggest — but only God knows the heart (1 Kings 8:39).
