Elisha

Elisha was plowing with twelve yoke of oxen when Elijah passed by and threw his mantle upon him. Elisha immediately left everything to follow Elijah, serving as his attendant for several years. When Elijah was about to be taken to heaven, Elisha asked for a double portion of his spirit, a request that required him to witness Elijah's departure.

After receiving Elijah's mantle and parting the Jordan River, Elisha began a ministry marked by extraordinary miracles. He purified poisoned water, multiplied a widow's oil to pay her debts, raised the Shunammite woman's son from the dead, fed a hundred men with twenty loaves, and healed Naaman the Syrian commander of leprosy. He made an axe head float, struck the Syrian army with blindness, and prophesied the end of a devastating siege.

Unlike Elijah's confrontational style, Elisha often worked quietly within society. He established schools of prophets, advised kings, and demonstrated God's power in everyday situations. His miracles frequently helped ordinary people in practical ways, revealing God's compassion for daily human needs.

Elisha served as prophet for about fifty years, through the reigns of multiple kings. Even his death was remarkable: when a dead man was thrown into Elisha's grave and touched his bones, the man revived. The double portion Elisha requested was confirmed—he performed about twice as many recorded miracles as Elijah.
