What does the Bible say about overcoming addiction?

Addiction is a powerful bondage that affects millions — enslaving people to substances, behaviors, and patterns that destroy lives. The Bible speaks directly to bondage and freedom, offering hope that no chain is too strong for God to break. Key King James Version passages include John 8:36, 1 Corinthians 6:12, Romans 6:14. This page collects 10 KJV verses about overcoming addiction, each quoted in full.

Can God deliver someone from addiction?

Yes. John 8:36 promises that whom the Son sets free is free indeed. God's power is sufficient to break any chain. Recovery often involves both spiritual and practical support — prayer, community, counseling, and sometimes medical help.

Is addiction a sin?

The Bible doesn't use the word 'addiction,' but it warns against being mastered by anything (1 Corinthians 6:12). Addiction often begins with choices that become bondage. God offers compassion, not condemnation, and the power to overcome.
