    Gog and Magog

Ezekiel and Revelation foretell a final assault of Gog and Magog against God's people.

    Gog and Magog

Ezekiel 38-39 describes Gog of the land of Magog leading a great northern coalition against Israel in the latter days. Revelation 20 names Gog and Magog again at the close of the millennium in a final, doomed assault.

    The Prophecy

"After many days thou shalt be visited: in the latter years thou shalt come into the land that is brought back from the sword, and is gathered out of many people, against the mountains of Israel..."
"Thou shalt fall upon the mountains of Israel, thou, and all thy bands, and the people that is with thee: I will give thee unto the ravenous birds of every sort, and to the beasts of the field to be devoured."
"And shall go out to deceive the nations which are in the four quarters of the earth, Gog and Magog, to gather them together to battle...And fire came down from God out of heaven, and devoured them."

    An invasion from the north

Ezekiel's coalition gathers from the uttermost north against a regathered Israel dwelling in unwalled villages — only to be destroyed on the mountains of Israel by God Himself.

    A final post-millennial revolt

Revelation reuses the name Gog and Magog for the last revolt at the end of the thousand years — Satan loosed, the nations deceived, and instant judgment from heaven.
