    What Does John 14:27 Mean?

    Jesus promises His disciples a peace different from anything the world offers. This peace isn't dependent on circumstances but flows from relationship with Christ.

    The world's peace is temporary and conditional. Christ's peace guards the heart against trouble and fear. This is His gift to all who trust Him.

    Jesus spoke this in the Upper Room the night before His crucifixion. The disciples were troubled by His announcement of departure. The Jewish greeting 'Shalom' typically wished peace, but Jesus offered something qualitatively different—His own peace, rooted not in circumstances but in His relationship with the Father.
