Written by Presbyterian minister George Duffield Jr. in 1858 as a funeral tribute to his friend Dudley A. Tyng, a young revivalist whose dying words after a farm accident were, 'Tell my brethren of the ministry, wherever you meet them, to stand up for Jesus.' Set to Webb's tune originally written in 1830 for a secular text.
