Revelation 22:13 – Meaning & Devotional
"I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end, the first and the last."
What This Verse Means
Jesus claims a title that belongs to God alone: Alpha and Omega — the first and last letters of the Greek alphabet. He is the beginning of everything and the end toward which everything moves. Nothing exists outside His authority.
Three pairs emphasize totality: Alpha-Omega, beginning-end, first-last. Jesus is not part of the story — He is the story. History begins with Him, moves through Him, and concludes in Him.
Historical Context
These are among the final words of the entire Bible. Jesus speaks from His glorified state, assuring believers that He who began creation will also bring it to completion. The Revelation ends as Genesis began — with God having the first and last word.
How to Apply This Today
Whatever you're facing — a beginning or an ending, a start or a finish — Jesus is already there. He was at the start before you arrived, and He'll be at the end after everything else fades. Rest in His eternal presence.
