Psalm 9:10 – Meaning & Devotional
"And they that know thy name will put their trust in thee: for thou, LORD, hast not forsaken them that seek thee."
What This Verse Means
David draws a direct line between knowing God and trusting God. The deeper your knowledge of who God is (His 'name' represents His character), the more naturally you trust Him. Distrust usually stems from not knowing Him well enough.
The promise seals it: God has never forsaken anyone who genuinely seeks Him. His track record is perfect. Every seeker has found Him faithful.
Historical Context
Psalm 9 celebrates God's justice and care for the oppressed. David writes from experience — he had sought God through years of persecution and found Him faithful every time. Knowledge of God's character produced unshakeable trust.
How to Apply This Today
If you struggle to trust God, the solution is not to try harder but to know Him better. Study His names, meditate on His character, and review His faithfulness in your own life. Trust grows from knowledge.
