Proverbs 16:3 – Meaning & Devotional
"Commit thy works unto the LORD, and thy thoughts shall be established."
What This Verse Means
The Hebrew word for 'commit' literally means 'to roll' — as in rolling a burden off your shoulders onto the Lord. When we entrust our endeavors to God, He stabilizes our thinking and directs our plans.
This is the opposite of anxious self-reliance. Instead of white-knuckling our way through life, we roll our work onto God and find that clarity and peace follow.
Historical Context
This proverb is part of Solomon's collection about the relationship between human planning and divine sovereignty. Several proverbs in chapter 16 contrast man's plans with God's purposes.
How to Apply This Today
Before starting your work each day, consciously commit it to God. Surrender your agenda, your projects, and your ambitions to His direction. Watch how He brings clarity to your thoughts.
