Jeremiah 17:7 – Meaning & Devotional
"Blessed is the man that trusteth in the LORD, and whose hope the LORD is."
What This Verse Means
Jeremiah contrasts two people: one who trusts in human strength (v. 5) and one who trusts in the Lord (v. 7). The one who trusts God is like a tree planted by water — thriving even in drought.
The key distinction is the object of trust, not the presence of trouble. Both face heat and drought, but only the one rooted in God continues to bear fruit.
Historical Context
Jeremiah ministered during Judah's final decades before Babylonian exile. Surrounded by false prophets and political alliances with Egypt, the temptation to trust human solutions was intense. Jeremiah's message: trust God alone.
